Pride and Prejudice: Bilingual Edition
When Diglot reached out and asked if they could send me a copy of Pride and Prejudice in French and English I did a little happy dance. I had already been looking for this exact type of book but wasn’t having much luck. You see, I’ve been learning French on and off since I was a toddler (my mum used to be a French teacher) but as an adult I’ve gotten horribly rusty and I thought reading in French would be a fun way to get back into it. But the bilingual books I found had English on one page and French on the opposite side which was a really disjointed and distracting way to read. I even tried getting some middle-school novels purely in French, but the subject matter wasn’t interesting enough and I kept putting them aside.
Where the Diglot books differ is that they are in English to start with, and gradually start peppering in more and more French words as you progress through. AND Pride and Prejudice is a novel I could happily read over and over, so win-win!
This method has been around for a while in kids’ books (we have a bunch for our daughter) but I haven’t seen them like this for adults, and with books you’d actually want to read, so I’m thrilled! They have Spanish and French books and I definitely recommend checking them out if you’re looking for a fun way to supplement your language learning!
