American Royals

Score: 5/5 Bookmarks

Steam Rating: 🍆/5

American Royals by Katharine McGee is a revisionist history of the United States, where we have a royal family instead of the governmental system we have now.

I don’t usually read many young adult books these days, but I absolutely loved American Royals and couldn’t put it down. It’s sweet and funny and the characters feel real and are certainly very likable.

Each chapter switches to a new character and we see a set of events through their eyes. I loved the way it was written and felt that the different perspectives added additional richness to the story.

The only thing I didn’t like about the book was the total cliffhanger it ended on! But I’ve heard that a second book is coming, so I’ll forgive the author (as long as she writes it quickly). ;)

If you haven’t picked this one up yet I definitely recommend you do. Click the button below to get your own copy.

Synopsis:

What if America had a royal family?

When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne.

As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America's first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling. Nobody cares about the spare except when she's breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn't care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her. And then there's Samantha's twin, Prince Jefferson. If he'd been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.
