Heating & Cooling: 52 Micro-Memoirs by Beth Ann Fennelly was recommended to me when I was asking around for good, short books. You see, I wanted to make sure I reached my goal of 100 books by the end of the year. So I purchased the book, purely on recommendation, not knowing anything about it. And what a delightful surprise this book was.
It is laugh-out-loud funny, dark, delicious and took longer to read than it should have because I kept having to go back and read parts to my husband that I thought he’d enjoy.
In my opinion it’s infinitely more difficult to write short than long. Every word carries so much more weight. Fennelly is a true artist.
Thoroughly entertaining and worth the read. You can get your own copy by clicking the button below.
Synopsis:
The 52 micro-memoirs in genre-defying Heating Cooling offer bright glimpses into a richly lived life, combining the compression of poetry with the truth-telling of nonfiction into one heartfelt, celebratory book. Ranging from childhood recollections to quirky cultural observations, these micro-memoirs build on one another to arrive at a portrait of Beth Ann Fennelly as a wife, mother, writer, and deeply original observer of life’s challenges and joys.
Some pieces are wistful, some wry, and many reveal the humor buried in our everyday interactions. Heating Cooling: 52 Micro-Memoirs shapes a life from unexpectedly illuminating moments, and awakens us to these moments as they appear in the margins of our lives.
