Thank you to St Martinâs Press and Macmillan Audio for gifting me review copies of Ten Rules for Faking It by Sophie Sullivan.
Everly Dean hates birthdays. In fact, all of her worst moments seem to happen on that fated day, and this one is certainly no exception. After walking in on her boyfriend in bed with his assistant Everly rushes to work and spills the beans to her friend and colleague. Just one problem. They work at a radio station, and Stacey didnât mute the mike, so all of their listeners heard every word.
Everly is mortified, but their listeners seem determined to help her find love. So, together with their way-too-cute-to-be-legal boss the three come up with a plan to have Everly be the Bachelorette of their own dating segment.
Thereâs another catch though. Everly has severe social anxiety, so this is basically her worst nightmare come to life.
I quickly fell in love with all of the main characters in this book, and thought the radio-station setting was unique and fun. Chris was especially sweet, and I loved how thoughtful he was when it came to Everly. Basically, if The 12 Dates of Christmas and Get a Life, Chloe Brown had an adorable love child it would be this book. Itâs the perfect pick-me-up after the year weâve had, so youâll definitely want to add this to your TBR.
I read part of the book in physical form, and listened to the rest on audiobook. I thought the audiobook was so wonderfully narrated by Rebecca Gibel who really brought the characters to life in a beautiful way. The audio comes in at just over 12 and a half hours long and you can grab a copy of it here, or get the physical book via the button below.
What happens when your love life becomes the talk of the town?
As birthdays go, this yearâs for radio producer Everly Dean hit rock-bottom.
Worse than the âtonsillectomy birthday.â Worse than the birthday her parents decided to split (the first time). But catching your boyfriend cheating on you with his assistant?
Even clichés sting.
But this is Everlyâs year! She wonât let her anxiety hold her back. Sheâll pitch her podcast idea to her boss.
Thereâs just one problem.
Her boss, Chris, is very cute. (Of course). Also, he's extremely distant (which means he hates her, right? Or is that the anxiety talking)?
And, Stacey the DJ didnât mute the mic during Everlyâs rant about Simon the Snake (syn: Cheating Ex).
Thatâs three problems.
Suddenly, people are lining up to date her, Bachelorette-style, fans are voting (Reminder: never leave house again), and her interest in Chris might be a two-way street. Itâs a lot for a woman who could gold medal in people-avoidance. Sheâs going to have to fake it âtill she makes it to get through all of this.
Perhaps sheâll make a list: The Ten Rules for Faking It.
Because sometimes making the rules can find you happiness when you least expect it.
