I picked up The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie in the airport on the way to Palm Springs. Nothing like a bit of murder mystery reading in the sunshine!

The premise is that there’s a serial killer on the loose, working his way through the alphabet and the whole country is in a state of panic.

A is for Mrs. Ascher in Andover, B is for Betty Barnard in Bexhill, C is for Sir Carmichael Clarke in Churston. With each murder, the killer is getting more confident—but leaving a trail of deliberate clues to taunt the proud Hercule Poirot might just prove to be the first, and fatal, mistake.

While I initially found the language a little difficult to get through smoothly (it was written in 1936) I was quickly engrossed in the story and couldn’t put it down. This was actually my first ever Agatha Christie book, and I plan on reading many more!

The book was made into a TV miniseries last year staring John Malkovich as Hercule Poirot, which I’ve also added to my watchlist.
