The Holdout
Score: 5/5 Bookmarks
I did not expect to enjoy The Holdout by Graham Moore as much as I did. The synopsis didn’t give too much away, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. But I quickly got into this courtroom drama / mystery and could not put it down. The pacing and tension was exactly right to keep me engaged and eager to find out how everything was going to wrap up!
The Holdout is all about a jury that ends up with fame and notoriety after their names are leaked to the press on a high-profile murder case. The case follows them for years after their verdict has been reached and there are a lot of twists and turns that you won’t see coming.
Definitely worth a read, or a listen…the audiobook version is also great. It’s narrated by Abby Cradon, who does a fantastic job with it. You can grab the audiobook here, while also supporting your local indie bookstore, or click the button below to get a physical copy.
Synopsis:
In this twisty tale from Moore (The Sherlockian), the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of The Imitation Game, young juror Maya Seale is convinced that African American high school teacher Bobby Nock is innocent of killing the wealthy white female student with whom he appears to have been involved and persuades her fellow jurors likewise. Ten years later, a true-crime docuseries reassembles the jurors, and Maya, now a defense attorney, must prove her own innocence when one of them is found dead in Maya's room.
