10 Best Children’s Books
Ok, so ‘best’ is a pretty subjective word and I’m sure you’re wondering how we came up with this list of the 10 Best Children’s Books.
First, we narrowed down a list from the HUNDREDS of books our almost-three-year-old daughter already has in her library, into a pile of books she routinely wants to read again and again.
Then we narrowed that pile down further into books her father and I can also stand to read a hundred times in a row.
Then we took a closer look and just picked out the ones that have exceptional writing and/or illustration and here we have our 10 Best Children’s Books list!
1. The Road Not Taken
Robert Frost’s poem is beautifully illustrated by Vivian Mineker and is a wonderful way to introduce your little ones to Frost’s work.
2. Tomorrow I’ll Be Brave
Written and illustrated by Jessica Hische, this book has a beautiful message as well as stunning typography and illustrations.
3. Firefly July
Is a collection of short poems for each season, with bold, bright, beautiful illustrations by ??
4. Pride & Prejudice
We’ve got a lot of Austen board books from various illustrators and publishers but this is by far the favorite. It has sturdily-constructed slides and discs for the little one to move and engage with and illustrations that mirror the humor of Austen’s words, along with actual pieces of text from the original book.
5. A Little Stuck
So much suspense, how will it end? Not the way you think! This one has our daughter and ourselves chuckling every time we read it.
6. Amelia Earhart
A great introduction to the life and accomplishments of Amelia Earhart. Check out the other books in the Little People, Big Dreams series too!
7. One Big Heart
This book is all about us being more the same than we are different. It’s a wonderful way to teach your little one about inclusiveness and diversity. AND it’s illustrated by one of our all-time favorite children’s book illustrators Lucy Fleming.
8. Max the Brave
This was one of our daughter’s very first books and still one that she pulls off the shelf to flick through herself and have us read to her. At first I thought the illustrations too rudimentary but they have really grown on us all and now I’d describe them as minimilist and charming.
9. The Little Reindeer
This is a fairly new edition to our daughter’s library, but the beauty of the story, the captivating illustrations, and the incredible finishing of metallic spot ink and cut out windows have quickly made this one a favorite. Plus it’s perfect for this time of year!
10. Prince & Knight
Forget stories of princesses looking for this prince, this prince is on the hunt for a partner to help him rule his kingdom…and a princess is just not going to be the right fit for him.
All of these books would make wonderful Christmas or birthday gifts for any two year old, three year old, or four year old in particular.
